Spring semester students arrived on the Greenway campus a couple of weeks ago from our partner institution, Etown College in Pennsylvania. As an introduction to their new home in Vermont, we had a week packed with winter fun.
During their first weekend, the team volunteered with the Montpelier Parks Department to chop wood from ash trees affected by Emerald Ash Borers. The Parks Department offers this wood as affordable heating fuel to low-income Vermonters. We were excited to flex our muscles and help the local community stay warm this winter!
Greenway Returns To Rigorous
Earlier in the week, we also visited our friends at Rigorous Technologies in Williston. Rigorous is a robotics startup with a small team of engineers who develop some pretty impressive projects for their customers.
We learned about how engineers at Rigorous meet client needs by developing custom user interface solutions for assistive robotics in manufacturing settings, and also gained insights on what to do as an intern to increase your chances of being hired full-time.
In the coming weeks, students will be working on a community-based design project to develop a design for an electric bike station for the Central Vermont Community Bike share. This project will enhance their design skills while exposing them to Montpelier’s unique community values and needs.
