Greenway Generates Energy at REV
Not only did our students attend the Renewable Energy Vermont (REV) conference, they helped kick it off! GCES sophomore Jazz Gonzalez was invited to be one of the keynote speakers in Burlington. “I’m an engineer. I love solving problems,” Jazz said. “A lot of people like to talk about them, but I like to go out and fix them.”
They went on to say that to make the 100% renewable energy shift that Vermont seeks to make, Vermont needs more young engineers like Jazz and the Greenway students. Jazz spoke about the conditions that would make Vermont a place young engineers could live and thrive, including access to housing near where people work.
What an impact the speech made! Three of the speakers following Jazz referred back to their presentation.
The REV Conference, the largest renewable energy gathering in the region, was an opportunity to engage directly with hundreds industry professionals, policymakers, academics, and regulators about issues related to the students’ studies – from innovations in energy storage to how renewable energy statutes can lag innovation in ways that constrain our efforts to pivot to a low carbon future.
Many thanks Encore Renewable Energy for sponsoring the participation of students at the event!
Greenway Welcomes Community Member Kristin Cantu To Our Team!
We welcomed Kristin Cantu to our team. Kristin is the new sustainable engineering program manager for the Greenway Center for Equity and Sustainability. She has a background in communications, program development, project management, and community building. As a Montpelier resident, Kristin is excited to help develop and build upon Greenway’s mission of creating a sustainable and equitable community in her hometown, as well as create a strong connection between the local community and Greenway.
Kristin moved to Vermont from the Boston area 5 years ago with her family. She’s an avid reader, loves citrus flavored desserts, and is a mediocre but enthusiastic gardener. You might catch her walking her fluffy pup around the neighborhood or playing soccer with her son on the College Green.
Kristin is already bringing our work to the next level! Please say hi if you see her around the neighborhood.
