On August 19th, we were thrilled to welcome our first Sustainability Semester cohort here at Greenway’s new Montpelier location. Students arrived on Saturday and participated in a three day orientation program to get acquainted with our campus, our values and culture, and our team. Here are some highlights:
On Sunday, students worked as a team to construct a work bench. This activity was designed to introduce them to new equipment and to assess their facility and safety with tools. They are all very competent builders—we are impressed!
On Monday morning, students and staff got involved with the local community and participated in a service project. They rolled up their sleeves to rebuild and fix trail culverts that were damaged in the flood.
In the afternoon, students, staff, and faculty participated in team work and leadership training. Designed to identify individual strengths and how those function to make a stronger team, the group learned how to be more mindful about creating a safe working and learning environment. The photos above show responses to individual needs and priorities, what those look and sound like, and the behaviors that may inhibit best practices.
Our inaugural orientation was a tremendous success–students were so impressive. We can’t wait to see what they teach us next!
